Clear rules on how to ship clinical specimens from suspected 2019-nCoV cases.

Recently, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) issued a set of instructions on how to pack and ship clinical specimens from suspected 2019-nCoV cases (coronavirus). The packaging for specimen transport must comprise three components:

  1. Primary packaging: containers for holding biological specimens (alternatively: holding biological substances to be tested)
  2. Secondary packaging: liquid-tight containers, with cushioning and absorbent material, e.g. zip-seal bags with a thickness of at least 0.1 mm
  3. Outer packaging: rigid containers bearing the UN specification marking
