Shaft equipment are used in a wide variety of situations. In order to meet specific requirements, ZARGES offer a wide range of shaft equipment in standard and customised sizes, including shaft ladders, shaft covers, well covers, access aids at the top and bottom, and safety barriers. ZARGES shaft equipment meets the requirements for load classes A, B, C, D, E.
Our well covers are available in a wide range of designs and materials, such as aluminium, stainless steel and hot-dip galvanised steel. Some of our shaft covers are equipped with a trough that can be filled with materials to match their environment. This means our shaft covers (available in round and rectangular shapes) can blend in well with their surroundings.

ZARGES shaft ladders ensure workers can climb up and down a shaft safely for inspection and maintenance work. We offer shaft ladders in a wide variety of lengths, widths and materials. In our product range are shaft ladders made of plastic, hot-dip galvanised steel or stainless steel. Users can enter and exit a shaft safely with the help of access aids. ZARGES' shaft equipment range also includes fall arrester rails.

We supply well covers intended for protecting drinking water facilities and wells. They are available in various designs (e.g. with chimney for ventilation), materials (e.g. hot-dip galvanised or stainless steel) and sizes. Additional insulation options are also available.

ZARGES shaft ladders for underground work, and maintenance and service shafts
ZARGES shaft ladders are made of materials optimal for various applications. Shaft ladders are mostly used in environmental and underground engineering as well as in maintenance or service shafts found in buildings and industrial facilities.

The right material for shaft ladders
Whether you decide to use a ladder made of steel, stainless steel or GRP depends on the place of use and cost factors. The cheapest type of shaft ladders is definitely those made of steel. However, the low-maintenance material is not suitable for use in aggressive environments, e.g. wastewater treated with chlorine. In shafts with electrical installations, GRP shaft ladders should be used to avoid any unwanted electrical sparks. Stainless-steel shaft ladders are recommended for applications in permanently damp and wet environments.

Shaft ladders have to comply with specific standards
Only shaft ladders that comply with the EU standard DIN EN 14396 are allowed to be used. They must also be properly set up and installed using appropriate wall brackets and floor mounts.

The width of shaft ladders depends on the space available
ZARGES shaft ladders come in widths of either 300 or 400 mm. The width of a shaft ladder depends on the space available in the shaft. There are other equipment options such as access aids, fall arrester systems and safety barriers to make entering and working in a shaft as safe and comfortable as possible.

ZARGES shaft ladders compliant with DIN EN 14396
Shaft ladders are designed to be permanently installed in shafts and shaft systems. Fixed shaft ladder systems provide a safe way to enter and exit a shaft. Our shaft ladders can be fitted with fall arrester systems and are available in various lengths. There are also optional stay bars and access aids to further enhance safety during entry and exit.

Shaft ladders are an important consideration even during the planning phase
Shaft ladders must be taken into account as early as during the planning phase of a construction project. They are not only used during maintenance work on shafts and equipment located inside the shafts, but also indispensable when extracting and rescuing injured persons from a shaft.
